How do you know the detector of a thermal imager is a good one? In this article, we will take our Advanced DA-675B Thermal Binocular for instance, to explain for you five important parameters of a detector. Hope you will have a better understanding of it after reading.

1. NETD

This stands for “Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference”. It is a measure for how well a thermal imaging detector is able to distinguish between very small differences in thermal radiation of the object. NETD is typically being expressed in milli-Kelvin (mK). The NETD of the detector of DA-675B is <40mk, which can provide you with accurate detection results.

2. Resolution

The resolution of the infrared detector is the number of imaging pixels, the principle is the same as a normal camera. The higher the resolution, the more observation points and temperature measurement points there are, and smaller targets can be observed and the device can detect a longer distance. The resolution of our product is 640*512, and the detection distance for people can reach 4000 meters, and the detection distance for vehicles can reach 7000 meters.

3. Pixel spacing

When the resolution is the same, the object distance is unchanged, and the lens is the same, the larger the spacing, the wider the field of view. The pixel spacing of the detector of our product is 12μm,together with the resolution, it can provide you with clear and widen imaging.

4. Spectral range

The infrared rays passing through the atmosphere can be divided into three types based on the length of the wave: near-infrared (1~3 microns), mid-infrared (3~5 microns), and far-infrared (8~14 microns).Infrared rays within these three bands has good transmission ability in the atmosphere, or you can say, the atmosphere is almost transparent to these three range,so most infrared thermal devices detect these ranges, calculate and display the surface temperature distribution of objects or human. Thus, the infrared thermal detector does not require any light, and can just detect the infrared heat radiated by the object itself to produce clear images. This kind of detector can be applied to any environment, whether there is light or not. It can detect and discover camouflaged and concealed targets no matter day or night. It truly is 24-hour day/night monitoring. The spectral range of our product is 8-14μm, so the above principles can be perfectly utilized to achieve detection purposes.

5. Frame rate

Frame rate of a thermal detector represents the number of pictures displayed per second. Higher frame rate means the movement on the screen you see will be more natural and smooth. The frame rate of our product is 50hz, which can provide you with excellent visual experience.

Above would be all for today’s introduction. Below are some products utilizes thermal imaging technology as well, you can click to see which one do you prefer and then discuss it with us. Hope you have a nice day! Bye!
