Overview

IREEDA Precision Shortpass Edge Filters are engineered to selectively transmit shorter wavelengths while effectively blocking longer, undesirable wavelengths (typically in the Near-Infrared or Infrared spectrum). Utilizing advanced Hard-Coating (Sputtering) technology, these filters offer a remarkably sharp transition (steep slope) between the transmission and blocking regions.

Whether you are removing infrared noise from a CMOS sensor, isolating excitation bands in fluorescence microscopy, or protecting sensitive components from heat buildup, our filters provide high out-of-band rejection (up to OD6) and superior environmental durability.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between an IR-Cut filter and a Shortpass filter?

A: "IR-Cut filter" is a common application-specific term used in the camera industry (blocking IR light from sensors). A "Shortpass filter" is the technical optical term that defines the broader category. All IR-Cut filters are shortpass filters, but not all shortpass filters are for IR cutting (some work in UV or blue-green bands).

Q: How does the Angle of Incidence (AOI) affect the filter?

A: Shortpass filters are sensitive to the AOI. As the angle increases from 0 degree, the cut-off wavelength will shift toward shorter wavelengths (Blue shift). We recommend a 0 degree AOI for optimal performance unless a specific angle is requested during design.

Q: Can these filters be used with high-power LED or Laser sources?

A: Yes, but for high-power applications, we recommend the Fused Silica substrate with a high laser damage threshold (LDT) coating to prevent thermal stress and focal shift.
